Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! With your support, the 2nd annual Dogwood and Cattails Ball was a huge success, raising a little over $24,000.00 for the animals of Washington County. Our net profit for the evening was almost $10,000.00 more than last year's, which is very exciting. The WCHS has given $4,000.00 of this money to the WC/JC Animal Shelter to use as an emergency medical fund. Our spay / neuter awareness campaign is in full swing, receiving $12,000.00 of the funds, and best of all, we've dedicated $8,000.00 to be used for the spaying and neutering of dogs and cats. With our grant monies, we will have a total of $13,000.00 to help low-income families spay or neuter their pets. Since January of this year, we've helped spay or neuter over 200 pets. We can't thank our sponsors, donors, and patrons of the evening enough!
Once again, the night was delightful, with the music of the Charles Goodwin Orchestra playing and wine provided by One-Stop Discount Wines and Liquors. The doggy fashion show was a huge hit, with outfits provided by Posh & Paws, Lisa Bradley, Lisa Mominee, and Karen Nolan. Chief John Lowrey's miniature schnauzer, D.C. (stands for deputy chief), even had a holster with a little gun and real police patches! Everyone was enchanted by Tater Johnston driving his leased Furrari (provided by Posh & Paws). The piece de resistance of the fashion show was a doggy bridal party, complete with ringbearer, bridesmaid, and a lovely “carriage” for the bride and groom. (Click here to view "Doggy Fashion Show".)
Your humane society is working very diligently to lower the kill rate at our local shelter. The only viable solution is through the spaying and neutering of pets. If you know anyone who needs to spay or neuter his/her companion dog or cat, please tell them to call us at 926-8533. We are ready, willing, and able to help them get the financial assistance they need.
